Mimico Centennial Library Programming
Thursdays July 2 to 30, 2015
Mentored by Robin McPhail-Dempsey, the seven emerging youth artists will facilitate free Arts Camp throughout Mimico Library combining dance, drama, music, storytelling and visual arts to ignite the creative imagination.
Beginning with a warm-up activity, campers energize and familiarize themselves with their surrounding through movement. Participants will experience the Exploring Creativity in Depth™ program (ECiD) and dive into their imaginations to create a pastel drawing. In group discussions, campers will introduce their artwork and share their thoughts about the ECiD experience. The group dialogues reveal various interpretations of the colours, textures and shapes drawn.
An impromptu performance by the emerging artists showcases art through words, sound, movement and visually.
Using the stories revealed in their ECiD drawings, campers will collaborate to create one story. They will perform the tale while combining drama and music.
Participants will form and decorate their own masks. Campers will make use of sound, movement, storytelling and prop making to bring their masks to life. The characters expressed from their masks will help create larger stories. Visit our Events page to read about camp performances.
